Spring in Rhode Island: What to Do?

Spring is a wonderful time of the year, especially in Rhode Island. Flowers are blooming, the weather is warming up, and boats are setting sail. Whether you are new to the area, are planning a vacation, have lived here for years, or are moving to Rhode Island, there is something to do for everyone! Events are happening all over the state and coastal activities are ready to begin. Homes With Holly has put together this guide to help you and your family find something to do in Rhode Island this spring.

Roger Williams Park Botanical Center, Providence

Some of the most beautiful flowers are in bloom at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center! This is New England’s largest greenhouse display, featuring plants from all around the world. In June, the rose maze is in full bloom, making it the perfect romantic date spot (or proposal location *wink *wink). Mid April the Botanical center features Fairy Garden Days, perfect for the little ones.

Roger Williams Park Zoo

After you finish touring the Botanical Center, make your way over to Roger Williams Park Zoo. The zoo holds events all spring and summer long for kids and even adults. Walk around and view the different animal exhibits, visit one of the animal encounters to feed some exotic animals, or plan to visit during an event.

La Gondola, Providence

No need to travel to Italy when you can experience a gondola ride right here in Providence. La Gondola offers several different gondola rides that are perfect for a group, a romantic date night, or even a wedding. Take a ride in an authentic Italian gondola and experience providence from a new perspective.

WaterFire, Providence

WaterFire is a popular event in Providence that begins  in April and runs through the early fall. You can experience this on your gondola ride with La Gondola, or for free from the sides of the river. The show consists of experienced fire dancers, to torch ceremonies, to fiery dream orbs floating on the river. Book a table at one of the restaurants or bring a chair for comfortable viewing. Check out the schedule to plan your visit.

Wicked Tulips Flower Farm, Exeter

Pick your own tulips at the Wicked Tulips Flower Farm. The tulips are in bloom for only a few weeks out of the year in April & May. This makes the perfect activity for Mother’s Day, a great photo spot, and a fun way to bring some fresh flowers home!

Newport Daffodil Days

If you prefer daffodils over tulips then make sure to check out Daffodil Days in Newport! The best places to see daffodils in  April include the Coddington Hwy at West Main Road, Ballard Park, Hazard Road, Along Cliff Walk at Salve Regina University, Across from Easton’s Beach on Memorial Blvd and Dunlap-Wheeler Park.

Sweet Marie’s Tea Cottage, Wickford

Is a tea party on your bucket list? Sweet Marie’s Tea Cottage is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet afternoon tea with your friends and family. They also offer venue rentals, perfect for showers and private luncheons. Dress up in your tea party attire and enjoy a hot pot of tea accompanied by delicious sandwiches, scones, and sweets.
