I grew up in Bristol and can honestly say it was one of my favorite places I’ve lived. Some of my fondest memories growing up were being outside and enjoying the beauty of the East Bay.
It’s own little world: While one way in and one way out can be a downside for some, others love the sense of seclusion they get living in the East Bay. It kind of feels like you’re in your own little world out there. This also makes for a great sense of community.
Rich history: The East Bay is steeped in history, with many historic sites and landmarks to explore. From the mansions of Newport to the Bristol Fourth of July Parade, residents can immerse themselves in the region’s fascinating past and learn about its cultural heritage.
Cons of living in the East Bay
One way in. one way out: One of the most significant cons of living in the East Bay is the limited accessibility. The region is connected to the mainland by only one bridge, which can be a blessing and a curse. While the bridge offers stunning views of Narragansett Bay, it also means that if there were to be any issues, you are left with only one way in and one way out. This issue has become even more prevalent since the closure of the bridge, which connects the East Bay to Providence.
The closure of the I-195 bridge has resulted in long detours and increased traffic on alternative routes. This, in turn, has led to longer commute times, increased travel expenses, and decreased productivity for those who rely on the bridge to travel to work or school. The closure of the bridge has also raised safety concerns for residents of the East Bay. Emergency response times have increased, and some residents have reported difficulty accessing medical care due to the longer travel times.
Cost of living: In addition to the limited accessibility, living in the East Bay can also be expensive.
